ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY NONE OF THE GOVERNMENTS IN BIH ABIDE BY THE LAW ON GENDER EQUALITY

The Centers for Civil Initiatives, along with March 8 congratulations to women in BiH, warns of the inacceptable situation where women in BiH are denied of the rights guaranteed to them by the law.

Namely, none of the governments in BiH, neither 10 cantonal, two entity nor the Council of Ministers observe the Law on Gender Equality in BiH, which clearly sets forth that equal representation of genders exists when one of the genders is represented in at least 40% and that everything else is considered to be discrimination that in line with this law has to be eliminated.

Two cantonal governments – the Government of HNC and ZCD – do not have any women in their composition (whereat we have to mention that these two governments have more than 10 members each). Four governments have only one woman, and 4 have two women, whilst the entity governments have the highest representation rate – each having 4 women in a 17-member government (which is only 23%).

If we are to add here the unacceptably low representation of women in all parliaments, and the fact that parties giving this problem the right attention are really scarce.
